Shannon Hurn was drafted by the West Coast Eagles with their 13th pick in the 2005 National AFL draft after choosing to pursue football over a promising cricket career.
Hurn made his debut in round 6, 2006 against the Brisbane Lions and went on to play 6 games in his debut season but did not feature in any finals appearances.
2007 saw Hurn solidify his spot in the West Coast line up across half back which he has made his own over the past 12 years.
Consistency of performance and leadership qualities both on and off the field led to Hurn being named captain of the eagles after the 2014 season. In 2018 Hurn lead the Eagles to their 4th AFL Premiership along with being selected in the All-Australian team.
Following a strong pre-season Hurn will be aiming to lead the Eagles to consecutive flags in season 2019.
