Cutler was recruited during the 2013 NAB AFL Draft by the Brisbane Lions. A medium defender, who exercises elite disposal and acceleration, Cutler has proven his ability at senior level during his 45 career games.
As a junior, Cutler accumulated various accolades, including the 2012 TAC Cup Premiership with Oakleigh Chargers, u18 Vic Metro representation and induction to the AIS-AFL Academy in late 2012. Cutler made his first debut for the Brisbane Lions in 2014 in round 4 against Port Adelaide. Cutler’s development increased significantly after playing further games with the Lions. A year after his debut, Cutler collected 32 disposals in a career-high game during Round 4 of the 2015 season against West Coast.
Since 2015, Tom has appeared to develop very well as he collects more possessions and confidence in his ability. Collecting an average of 16.2 disposals a game in 2015, Tom has since grown that number in 18.46 in 2016 and further again to 19.25 in 2017. Tom’s offensive and attacking style of play can be illustrated through his 2016 and 2017 rebound numbers, averaging 4.0 a game. Cutler has also demonstrated his ability to kick goals when in range, kicking 9 and 8 goals in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Since then, Cutler has continued to develop and progress as a senior player. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, Cutler was recognised by the Lions as the Most Professional Player. Tom will now look towards the 2018 season where he will hope to play his 50th AFL game whilst furthering his development and experience.
