Shaun McKernan was drafted by the Adelaide Crows in the 2008 National Draft, and made his debut a few months later in Round 14, 2009. After playing 34 games for the Crows over 6 seasons, McKernan moved back to Victoria where he was selected by Essendon in the 2015 Rookie Draft.
Since joining Essendon, McKernan has proven to be an important asset in shaping the clubs future, with his experience and leadership regarded highly. Injuries have hampered McKernan in almost every season, and as a result he has played 28 games in 4 years at the club.
A powerful tall, McKernan can also fill a void in the ruck and uses his size and strength to his advantage at contests either ends of the ground. McKernan’s leadership on and off the field ensures his presence is always felt around Essendon.
