Best known for his "rare attire" behind the stumps sporting short sleeves and a floppy hat, Seb Gotch is also a talented multisport athlete who chose cricket after a promising junior football career.

Bio

Having started off as a footballer with the Oakleigh Chargers, Gotch decided to concentrate on his cricket whilst in his early teens, and exhibited an aptitude for the game straightaway in junior ranks. He eventually paved his way through grade cricket and was named captain of the Australian U-19 side, where he played alongside Ashton Agar and Cameron Bancroft in 2011. He played just 3 games and scored 127 runs, before being picked for the Cricket Australia XI in the BBQ Matador Cup. Gotch is the son of former Fitzroy and St Kilda footballer and veteran VFL coach, Brad.

Gotch was upgraded from the Bushrangers rookie list for the 2016-17 campaign where he exhibited his ability to perform on the big stage when he forged a 139-run partnership with a lower-order batsman James Pattinson, and a 79-run partnership with Dan Christian, which proved to be pivotal in Victoria’s title defense that season. In the 2016/17 season of the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Stars as well. His gritty 30 on debut was lauded even by purists because he played with the kind of grit that is seldom found in the modern T20 batsman. The Stars lost to the Perth scorchers in the semi-final, but Gotch shone again with a 48 in this game and left his mark once again on the big occasion. 2018/19 saw Gotch return for injury at the back end of the season and make back to back hundreds on his return, his first in First Class cricket. Currently Victoria’s first choice keeper/batsman, Gotch will be one to watch in years to come.

Off the field Gotch loves his footy. In the off season he coaches the reserves at Caulfield Grammarians Football Club and also enjoys playing golf and hanging out with family and his mates.

I don’t hit many sixes so anything that clears the rope is always a positive,
