After 264 games for Collingwood, including the captaincy for the 2008 season, Burns retired from playing AFL and joined the West Coast coaching panel in season 2009. Scott played a key role in West Coast’s climb back up the ladder to play finals football again. 2014 then saw Scott return home to Collingwood where he undertook an assistant coaching role within the midfield. Scott moved to the Hawthorn Football Club ahead of the 2018 season where he is now an assistant coach under Alistair Clarkson.
