Selected by Carlton with the 1st Pick in the 2006 Rookie Draft, Sam Jacobs amassed just 17 games in his first four seasons, but was given a critical opportunity at the end of 2010, as he was traded to Adelaide and became one of the competition’s premier ruckman. With his excellent aerobic ability, large frame, marking skills and clean disposal, Jacobs dominates around the contest.
Receiving All-Australian squad nominations in 2012, 2014 and 2017, Jacobs’ leadership and team-orientated manner was also recognised as he was awarded Adelaide’s Best Team Man in the 2012 season. The ruckman’s ability in the air as well as around the ground has been pivotal in the team’s orientation and structure.
2017 was a standout year for Jacobs as he was nominated for his 3rd All-Australian squad appearance whilst also finishing 4th in Adelaide’s Best & Fairest medal. 2017 also saw Jacobs play in his first AFL Grand Final. Following the disappointment on Grand Final day Jacobs put in a yet another consistent season in 2018, played all 22 games and placing 4th in the league for Hit Outs.
At the end of the 2019 season, Jacobs moved to the Giants to compliment their ruck stocks as the now-veteran big man adds valuable experience as the club searches for it’s maiden AFL flag.
