Nick Dal Santo spent the better part of 15 seasons as one of the premier midfielders of the AFL, and has become a respected voice in the AFL media world since. Now, he takes on a new challenge as coach of the St Kilda AFLW side.

Bio

Drafted to St Kilda at the end of 2001, Nick Dal Santo made his debut in the 2002 season. A polished left footer, he had silky smooth skills and was at ease in the chaos of the midfield, often seeming to have more time than everyone else.

Dal Santo spent 12 years at the Saints, in which time he played 260 games including 17 finals and 3 Grand Finals.

He was selected in the All-Australian side 3 times and was well regarded for his leadership.

While they did not win a Grand Final, Dal Santo was an integral part of St Kilda’s sustained success over this period.

At the end of 2013, Dal Santo was after a new challenge. He joined North Melbourne and was immediately added to their leadership group, played finals in all three years, and took his total games tally to 322.

Following his retirement in 2016, Dal Santo returned to St Kilda to be part of the club’s Next Generation Academy. He has been Head Coach of the program since 2017, and the program has thrived with his involvement.

Ahead of the 2021-22 AFLW season, Dal Santo was announced as the new coach for the St Kilda AFLW side.

With his experience in the Next Generation Academy, Dal Santo will combine his knowledge in coaching with his illustrious playing career as the clubs second ever AFLW coach.

Dal Santo is also a polished media performer, where he is a fixture at Fox Sports during their game day coverage and weekly panel shows.

He can also be heard on the sound waves of SEN Melbourne’s radio network and with his illustrious playing career, leadership, and media skills, is a popular guest speaker and MC at all levels.

Dal Santo is an ambassador for Maddie’s Vision, and away from football is a keen golfer. He currently lives in Melbourne with wife Julie and their three children.
