Jake Long was drafted in the 2014 Rookie Draft to Essendon after showing his ability with the St Mary’s Football Club in the Northern Territory. Jake, son of Essendon champion, Michael Long, is renown for his class, silky skills and athleticism. Long has displayed great ability in the defensive and forward half as well as great pace and agility through the wings and midfield.
Jake debuted for Essendon in the closing rounds of the 2016 season, holding his position for the remaining three games. He showed great maturity and signs of significant development during his outings and will look to further make his mark on the competition in the years ahead. Essendon are very optimistic and excited by the young athlete, illustrated through his elevation to the senior list at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
2018 saw Long play consistent football in the VFL which was rewarded with two senior games in the back half of the season. Another strong pre-season will hopefully see Long earn a consistent spot in the Bombers line up in 2019.
