Daniel McStay was selected by the Brisbane Lions with pick 25 in the 2013 National Draft. A tall, athletic defender with a competitive nature, he has the ability to shut down opposition forwards while creating counter-attacks from defence. After debuting in Round 15, 2014, McStay played the last 9 games of the season and has rarely been out of the Lions AFL side since.
Injuries hampered McStay’s 2016 season, but solid seasons in 2017 and 2018 have him closing in on his 100th game milestone. At times thrown forward, McStay has proven he can hit the scoreboard with 70 career goals to his name.
On top of being a reliable figure down back, this versatility around the ground ensures McStay impacts games and continues to develop into a key member of the Brisbane Lions structure.
