A utility who has made his home in the backlines, Cale Hooker joined Essendon in the 2007 National Draft. Debuting in 2008, Hooker spent the early years of his career under the radar as tall shutting down opposition forwards, before a breakout year in 2014 saw Hooker selected in the All-Australian team and place second in the Essendon Best and Fairest.

With the Bombers lacking tall forwards, Hooker made a move to the forward line in 2015 and claimed his first Essendon Best and Fairest. This was also the season Hooker was first promoted to the Leadership Group. While playing as a forward, Hooker’s best season was in 2017 when he kicked 41 goals.

A return to the backline beckoned in 2019 where Hooker is an experienced head amongst the back six, as he closes in on his 200th AFL game.

Outside of football, Hooker runs a boutique winery out of the Swan Valley called Hooker Wines.
