A best and Fairest winner at two separate clubs, Bernie Vince is a rarity. Thanks to his outstanding career with both the Crows and the Demons, combined with his down to earth personality, Bernie is forging a successful media career.

Bio

Hailing from Stansbury on the Yorke Peninsula, Vince grew up on a farm with his 4 younger sisters. A keen cricketer, Vince was offered a scholarship to Prince Alfred College in Adelaide and excelled throughout his junior days.

After finishing school Vince returned to the farm, took up an apprenticeship, and reunited with his junior cricket and football clubs.

While juggling the two sports, Vince was asked to trial with Woodville West Torrens in the SANFL. The season did not start well, Vince was playing in the reserves and returned home to play for his local club.

However Woodville kept watching him and invited him back out. He played a few more reserves games, then made his league debut, and was drafted to the Crows in the 2005 AFL Draft shortly after.

The undoubted ‘smoky’ of his draft class, Vince struggled to play consistent football in his first two seasons, however a breakout fourth season at the Crows saw Vince claim the 2009 Best and Fairest and announce himself as one of the classiest midfielders in the AFL.

After eight seasons and 129 games, Vince joined Melbourne during the 2013 AFL Trade Period, quickly assuming an important role in the Demons young and developing squad.

This culminated in winning the Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott award as Melbourne’s Best and Fairest player in 2015 – a year in which he polled a career high 14 Brownlow votes.

Bernie Vince

Post an AFL career that yielded 229 games and the distinction of being a Best and Fairest at both Adelaide and Melbourne, Vince has transitioned neatly to post-footy roles with Triple M and Fox Footy.

Currently the co-host of Triple M Adelaide’s weekday show, The Rush Hour, Vince also slides in to the experts chair on weekends for the station’s AFL match coverage. His sporting weekend is completed as part of the panel on Sunday nights on Fox Footy’s The Bounce, which looks back at the lighter side of the AFL round just completed.

Bernie and wife Abbie welcomed their first child Harvey in 2019, with daughter Olivia joining the family in 2021.

Away from the media, Vince enjoys spending time with his family, returning to the farm, and working on his golf game.
