Ben Stratton has gone from being overlooked in multiple drafts, to a three time Premiership player and club captain of the Hawthorn Football Club.
After three years playing for East Perth in the WAFL, Stratton joined Hawthorn via the 2009 National Draft. The medium defender debuted shortly after in Round 3 of 2010 and earned a Rising Star nomination that year.
A knee injured derailed Stratton’s 2011 season, but he bounced back to play every game in 2012 including Hawthorn’s Grand Final loss to the Sydney Swans. He again played every game in 2013 and etched his name into the history books as part of Hawthorn’s 2013 Premiership side.
More success was to come, as Hawthorn and Stratton claimed a three-peat of Grand Final victories in 2013, 2013 and 2015.
After a quiet 2017 season, Stratton continued to be a lock in Hawthorn’s back line and missed only a handful of games along the way. At the beginning of the 2019 season Stratton was appointed captain of Hawthorn Football Club, and in 2020 he celebrated his 200th game.
