Love conquers all for Sam Willoughby

Australian BMX champion Sam Willoughby walks down the aisle on his Wedding Day

An Olympic silver medallist and two-time BMX World Champion, Sam Willoughby has an inspirational story unlike any other Australian sportsperson.

At the top of his game, just one month after the Rio Olympics, Willoughby tragically suffered a horrific spinal injury, putting an end to his sensational racing career. But through perseverance and determination, Willoughby was able to walk down the aisle to marry the love of his life and fellow Olympic BMX representative Alise just over one year after his accident.

Remarkably too, Willoughby has since returned to the BMX track to coach Alise.

Now, Sam is taking his story and sharing it with the masses as he embarks on a speaking tour to inspire and motivate thousands with his tale of success, near death, determination, and ultimately triumph.

Appearing on Channel 7’s Sunrise, Willoughby said “I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy but part of me embraces it and just enjoys the struggles day to day as I try to be the best version of me.”
