The 2015/16 season was Travis Dean’s first full time contract with Victoria and he started it in record breaking form. Off the back off a commanding 217 in a Futures League match against Western Australia, Dean was selected for his debut Shield Game against Queensland. When it seemed like every other first class batter in Australia was struggling with the pink ball in the day night shield match, Travis Dean hit a century in both innings.
In doing so Dean became the highest scorer ever on Shield debut, became one of only 5 cricketers world wide to hit two centuries in debut match and all of this in a team where he was the only player not to have represented his country.
Dean featured on the ground for the entire match against Queensland and if his debut game is anything to go we’ll be seeing a lot more of him out in the middle in the years to come.
