An exciting young asset acquired by the Blues at pick 30 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, De Koning is the son of the former Bulldogs key position player Terry De Koning and has plenty of potential. Standing at 200 centimetres, De Koning is not only physically gifted in the air but excellent at ground level for his size. De Koning was a member of the AFL Academy and represented Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships. A lacerated kidney would prematurely end his TAC Cup season but he was able to complete a full pre-season upon joining Carlton.
After a string of impressive performance with the Northern Blues, where his contested marking was a standout, De Koning earned a debut in Round 22 against his dad’s former side. A goal and five marks was a solid start to what the Blues hope will be a long tenure at Ikon Park.
