Shaun McKernan was drafted by the Adelaide Crows in 2008. McKernan displayed his elite rucking skills during the National Championships in 2008 where he represented Vic Metro. After a great carnival, McKernan was selected in the u18 All-Australian team.
McKernan made his debut for Adelaide in 2009. After 34 games for the Crows over 6 seasons, McKernan moved back to Victoria where he joined the Essendon Football Club via the Rookie Draft. Since being at Essendon, McKernan has been an important part in shaping the club’s future. In 2015, McKernan finished in the club’s top 10 count for the Best & Fairest, despite only playing 9 games. After playing 6 games in the 2016 season, McKernan was placed on the rookie list for Essendon ahead of the 2017 season.
In 2017, he played 3 games, averaging 12.3 disposals and 17 hit-outs a game. He has been given a contract extension which will now see him a Bomber until the end of the 2018 season. Shaun will now look towards the 2018 season where he will hope to find himself in the senior side more consistently.
