Ryley Stoddart has joined the Swans army being pick 53 in the 2017 National Draft. Stoddart caught the eye of scouts with his booming left foot kick and his composure with ball in hand bagging numerous goals for Yarra Valley in the AGSV school season and Vic Metro. He is known for his amazing agility and can dish the ball off to a teammate avoiding traffic with ease. Stoddart’s poise under pressure is second to none, averaging 17 disposals, five handball receives, four marks and was listed in Eastern Ranges’ best players in seven games. Stoddart’s running vertical jump of 98cm at the Draft Combine was outstanding and ranked No.2 overall. Riley is a modern day half-backman, while also possessing the ability to push up to a wing.
After impressing in the NEAFL, Ryley made his AFL debut in round 10 this year against Brisbane where he kicked his first AFL-goal. Stoddart impressed with his mature game-sense, ability to apply forward pressure as well as his overall fitness. He will look to 2019 to further impose himself on the competition and find a more permanent role in Sydney’s team.
