Michael Beer toiled away at club level in Melbourne for years and then moved to Western Australia during the 2010 off season as the Warriors searched for a frontline spinner. He took five wickets for the match against the touring England side in 2010-11 and was a shock selection in Australia’s squad for the Perth Test in December, despite having made only five first-class appearances.

He has since moved back to Victoria and has revolutionised the way spinners are used in white ball cricket being one of the first spinners used predominantly in the powerplays of one day and T20 games. He signed with the Melbourne Stars in 2014 in the Big Bash League and as of 2019, Michael has announced his retirement from the KFC Big Bash League after a stellar career of 58 matches across Melbourne and Perth.
