A running machine, the slightly framed Cottrell continues a family history dating back 60 years with the Blues, after grandfather Len spent two years with Carlton in the late 1950’s.
From Pearcedale and the Dandenong Stingrays, Cottrell caught the eye with his dashing play in 2018. His 19 games and 11 goals included a role in the Stingrays’ history-making TAC Cup Premiership. Cottrell recorded six games of over 100 Champion Data ranking points.
Invited to train with Carlton under the new Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period rules, Cottrell excelled in an AFL program. His endurance was displayed with a sub 6 minute 2 kilometre time trial and his neat skills were on show in training.
Signed by the Blues alongside Williamstown VFL’s Michael Gibbons, Cottrell joins the emerging Carlton list as another running option as it’s list build continues.
