Jackson Merrett was selected by Essendon as pick 31 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft. Merrett is a classy player who can be damaging as a forward as well as a midfielder. His skills and composure in tight situations are a highlight of his game. Jackson’s development was very impressive through the 2013-2014 seasons, highlighted by his 35 possession game against Carlton in early 2014. In that same year, Jackson was greeted by the arrival of his brother, Zach who was drafted by Essendon in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.
Jackson has continued to develop his craft in the AFL however has recently suffered a sever injury mid way through the 2017 season. Jackson suffered a broken leg in the VFL, which saw him put onto the LTI list. Sad news for Jackson however Essendon have illustrated their faith in the promising athlete, extending his contract until the end of the 2018 season. Jackson will now look to continue his recovery and enter the 2018 with the hope of playing further senior games.
