Geva Mentor is an English-born athlete who has helped shape the game of Netball in both Australia and the UK. As a child, Geva was a National Trampoline Champion, a keen kayaker and an avid horse-rider. However, Geva’s netball ability was superior. At just 15 years of age, Geva was selected to represent England in 2001. Since then, Geva has established herself as one of the game’s greatest defensive players ever.

As an English athlete, Geva has represented England in five Commonwealth games between 2002-2018 as well as captaining the World Team in 2009 to victory over the Australian team. Geva’s Australian Netball career has consisted of an ANZ Championship title with the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2010 before two further titles in 2012 and 2014 with the Melbourne Vixens. Furthermore, the success of Geva’s career has been displayed through the numerous accolades and awards she has collected. Mentor’s consistent form has seen her named in the ANZ All-StarTeam from 2012-2014 and the MVP of the Melbourne Vixens in 2014. However, most notably, Mentor was voted the World’s Best Netballer in 2014 – the highest of achievements.

2017 was another standout year for Mentor as she led the Sunshine Coast Lightning to the Inaugural Suncorp Super Netball Premiership win against Giants Netball, who were also one of the newly formed franchises. Geva was thrilled to be voted captain in an incredibly strong playing group and lead by example all year with numerous best on court performances. The praise didn’t stop there, Mentor went on to win the Suncorp Inaugural Premiership, Sunshine Coast Lightning Player of the Year, the Suncorp Super Netball league’s MVP and was also named in the league’s team of the year in the hotly contested GK position.

In 2018 at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Geva and her England Roses stunned the sporting world by upsetting Australia in the final to take home the Gold Medal. In front of a familiar crowd Geva dominated in the GK position shutting down her opponents and starred in the one goal thriller against the Australian Diamonds.
