Daniel was selected by the Brisbane Lions as pick 25 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft. He is an athletic, tall defender with a competitive nature. He has the ability to shut down opposition forwards while providing good counter-attack. Daniel can hit targets on his preferred left foot which was proven when he was named in the top 10 for disposal efficiency in the TAC CUP.
McStay made his AFL debut against North Melbourne in Round 15, 2014 playing at centre half-back. At the end of the 2017 season, McStay has proven to be one of Brisbane’s key defenders with the occasional swing-man role up forward. McStay has now played a total of 60 games for the club and will look to further develop and impact the game ahead of the 2018 season.
