State NFL roundup: Jameis Winston perfect down the stretch as Bucs beat Giants
Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston had completed half of his 32 passes when the Buccaneers got the football back with 3:16 to play trailing the New York Giants by one point on Sunday.
The Giants had just scored a touchdown, but their try for 2 to take a 3-point lead was turned back, leaving the lead at 23-22.
On the next six snaps, Winston completed a pass on each, picking up 62 yards to put Tampa Bay in field-goal position. Nick Folk put through a 34-yard field goal on the final play of the game to lift Tampa Bay to a 25-23 victory.
“Jameis did a great job,” Tampa Bay coach Dirk Koetter said of the former Hueytown High School star. “When Jameis plays like that, we’ll be hard to beat.”
Winston completed 22-of-38 passes for 332 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter – including a 58-yarder to rookie tight end O.J.
