Madi Robinson returns for Diamonds after knee injury lay-off

Robinson, who was cruelly denied 2015 World Cup selection due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, returns to the 12 in place of Diamonds’ retiree Kim Green, and will play alongside her Vixens teammate Liz Watson – who made her Test debut in England – for the first time at international level.

The 28-year-old admitted she was thrilled and relieved by her recall. “Reflecting on it, it’s been nearly two years since I’ve put on the green and gold, the end of 2014, so it’s been a long wait,” Robinson said. “But I’m really excited at the opportunity to get back in there with the group, and play whatever role I need to play, and obviously to do it with Liz is exciting as well.”

Acting captain Clare McMeniman is among six players who contested Sunday’s ANZ Championship grand final to be chosen for the Quad Series, which starts in Auckland on August 27. Melbourne will host the World Cup final rematch between the Diamonds and Silver Ferns at Margaret Court Arena on September 4.
