Moore of the Same as Darcy Joins Black and White

The Collingwood Football Club is delighted to confirm it has selected Oakleigh Chargers captain Darcy Moore with its first pick, number eight, in the 2014 National Draft.

The son of Magpie legend and two-time Brownlow Medallist Peter Moore, the athletic swingman will arrive at the Westpac Centre following an outstanding final season in the TAC Cup, where he led Oakleigh to its third Under-18 Premiership.

Moore reaffirmed his credentials as an elite talent with a stellar TAC Cup finals series, his versatility and contested marking strength coming to the fore as he consistently featured among Oakleigh’s best performers during September.

Moore’s performances for Vic Metro at the Under-18 National Championships saw him earn an All-Australian jumper and provided further evidence of his maturity and ability to rise to the occasion, traits which will undoubtedly hold him in strong stead as he joins his beloved Magpies.

Boasting agility and speed belying his 199 centimetre frame, Moore demonstrated remarkable adaptability in alternating between forward and defensive roles this year, proving apparent his resolve and willingness to embrace any challenge.

The former Carey Grammar student also featured for the VFL Magpies during the side’s round 18 VFL clash against Essendon at Victoria Park.

Moore is the eighth first-round draft selection to join Collingwood over the past two years, following the arrivals of Brodie Grundy, Ben Kennedy, Tim Broomhead, Taylor Adams, Patrick Karnezis, Matthew Scharenberg and Nathan Freeman, adding to the flock of fledgling Magpies poised to spur the Black and White towards the finals in 2015.
