Mookie Betts keeps hitting home runs and his latest dinger put the Boston Red Sox right fielder in exclusive company.
Betts’ third-inning home run in a 11-5 loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday night tied him with Dom DiMaggio for the most home runs hit from the leadoff spot in the batting order in team history.
Betts has hit 69 home runs as a leadoff hitter, doing so in 535 games with the Red Sox. DiMaggio, meanwhile, played in 1,399 games for the Red Sox from 1940-1953.
The milestone came a day after Betts clobbered three home runs in a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals. That gave Betts four career three-homer games, breaking a team record previously held by Ted Williams, who had three such games.
