BALTIMORE — Mookie Betts’ 500th career hit wasn’t a loud one.
It was a slow roller to third base and Manny Machado didn’t even attempt throw to first for the out.
Betts joined some exclusive company. He became the seventh Red Sox to reach 500 hits before turning 25 years old. He joined Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Bobby Doerr, Tony Conigliaro, Jim Rice and Xander Bogaerts.
Of Betts’ 500 hits, 310 have been singles, 113 have been doubles, 63 have been homers and 14 have been triples.
He reached 500 hits faster than Mike Trout who did it in 423 games. Betts took 408 games to do it.
