Logan Ryan and Eli Apple offer free one-day football camp at Eastern High School

Two former Eastern football stars playing in the NFL are giving back to their old high school and the South Jersey area in a big way.

Defensive backs Logan Ryan of the Tennessee Titans and Eli Apple of the New York Giants will be running a free one-day football camp at Eastern for youngsters.

Called “Thursday Night Lights,” it will run June 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Eastern. The camp will be for youngsters from eight to 18.

“Giving back to the kids in the area is important to us,” Ryan said. “It is important to make it free, and Eli and I wanted to make sure it is not about the money. It is about the experience for the youngsters.”

Apple echoed those sentiments.

“Eastern and the Voorhees area have been special to me, and I care about the people, the kids there,” Apple said. “We want to give them the message that if they work hard they can accomplish their goals.”

Ryan has earned two Super Bowl rings in his first four seasons with the New England Patriots. He signed with the Titans in the offseason as a free agent. He led all NFL cornerbacks last season with 92 tackles while also recording two interceptions.

Apple was the No. 10 overall pick of the 2016 draft by the Giants. As a rookie he recorded 51 tackles and one interception.
