Former Cat Joins Magpies
Collingwood is pleased to welcome Jared Rivers to the Holden Centre in the role of Development Coach.
The recently retired defender brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Collingwood’s coaching panel, having played 194 games for Melbourne and Geelong.
A natural teacher, Rivers coupled his playing career with coaching roles at Xavier College and Geelong’s VFL program while also completing the AFLPA’s Next Coach Program.
Director of Football Neil Balme said Rivers will prove a valuable addition to the coaching team.
“As a respected player who has recently stepped away from the game, Jared will have the ability to build strong relationships with our younger players and easily relate to their different stages of development,” Balme said.
“An individual of great character and an outstanding communicator, Jared comes in at an exciting time for our emerging list and will play a crucial role in developing the next 200-game players for this club.”
As part of a coaching restructure, Development Manager Craig McRae departs the Holden Centre after five years at the club.
“We thank Craig for his time at Collingwood, he oversaw the development of a group of players around that 40-70 game mark who will form the core of our side over the next decade,” Balme said.
“We wish Craig and his family all the best in the future.”
