Diamonds Coach Signs Contract Extension
Netball Australia has extended the contract of Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander for the next four years, which will see her lead the team until the end of 2019.
Alexander, appointed Diamonds coach in 2011, will remain in charge of the world number one ranked Australia for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England.
“I’ve got the energy and passion to continue coaching at the highest level for another four years and feel that I have more to contribute to the athletes, coaches and the sport,” Alexander said.
“I’m excited by the challenges ahead, not just the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup, but the continued development of Netball Australia’s High Performance systems and athlete and coach pathways.
“It’s a privilege and honor to coach Australia. I’m grateful for the faith and confidence that Netball Australia has shown and the support they’ve provided me to become the coach I am today.”
Alexander led Australia to its first Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in 12 years with victory in Glasgow last year as the Diamonds finished the calendar year undefeated and on a 19-game winning streak.
Netball Australia Chief Executive Officer Kate Palmer said the organisation was pleased to reappoint Alexander.
“We’re pleased to have retained Lisa’s services for the next four years. Her appointment will provide stability and clear direction for our High Performance and underpinning programs,” Palmer said.
“Lisa’s attitude and commitment to continuous improvement, both personally and with the Diamonds, is second to none. She constantly strives to establish the world’s best High Performance program and ensure Australia remains number one.”
