Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey wins Round 20 NAB AFL Rising Star Nomination
Jordan De Goey from the Collingwood Football Club is the Round 20 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.
The 19-year-old midfielder played his best game for the Magpies against the Sydney Swans last Friday night at the SCG.
His 12 tackles were a highlight. His game also included a goal, four marks and 18 possessions.
Jordan made his AFL debut in Round One and has played 13 games averaging 13 possessions.
Jordan was selection number five at the 2014 NAB AFL Draft. He was recruited from the Ashburton United Junior Football Club and was a member of the Oakleigh Chargers’ 2014 TAC Cup premiership team.
He represented Vic Metro at the 2014 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said Jordan’s strength and aggression in the contest is first class.
“He tackles hard, wins contested ball and never takes a backward step,” he said.
“His teammates know what they are going to get on and off the field and his willingness to learn has been a big reason for his consistent influence on field.
“He has had a promising debut season and has provided plenty of reason for excitement about what he can bring to the team as he matures.”
In May Jordan extended his playing contract with Collingwood until the end of the 2018 season.
Jordan is the second Collingwood player to be nominated following Tim Broomhead in Round 11.
