Caitlin Bassett Wins Western Australian Of The Year Award
West Coast Fever’s Caitlin Bassett won the Sport Award during Friday night’s Western Australian of the Year Awards Gala Ceremony at Crown. Caitlin shared the title with Fremantle Dockers AFL player Nat Fyfe.
The Sport Award recognises excellence in achievement, development, administration or promotion of sport in the Western Australian Community.
Bassett was recognised for helping guide the Fever to their maiden Championship finals series, becoming the first player to score 600 goals in a single season, securing her second World Championship with the Australian Diamonds, being crowned the Liz Ellis Diamond as Netball Australia’s player of the year and becoming the first Australian, and second player in history, to score 4000 goals in the Championship.
In Adelaide at the time of the ceremony, Bassett said she was “incredibly humbled”.
“It’s an honour to be recognised alongside Nat in this manner,” she said.
“We have such a rich sporting history and culture here in WA and I’m very fortunate to contribute to that by representing our State on a National and International stage.”
