Bryson DeChambeau moves to No.13 in latest Ryder Cup USA standings with T3 at Harbor Town
Bryson DeChambeau put together one heck of a late rally in the RBC Heritage at Harbor Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, on Sunday, but wound up finished tied for third and one shot out of a playoff.
DeChambeau bogeyed the 13th and 14th holes to seemingly fall out of contention, but roared back with birdies on each of the final four holes for a 66. It was DeChambeau’s fourth top-10 finish this season and it moved him up five spots from No. 18 to No. 13 in the latest Ryder Cup USA points standings.
While world No. 1 Dustin Johnson played in his home state event last week, many of the other top players in the world decided to take the week off following a grueling Masters.
As a result, there was no movement in the top 12 from a week ago. Masters champion Patrick Reed still occupies the top spot, with Justin Thomas, Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson rounding out the top 5, in that order.
Luke List — T3 at Hilton Head — moved from No. 20 in the standings to No. 15. Webb Simpson, meanwhile, was the only player to play his way into the top 20 of the USA standings. He moved from No. 25 to No. 19 thanks to a T5 at Harbor Town.
U.S. players will continue to gain points in 2018 at every non-opposite PGA Tour event, WGC and major through the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive, concluding on August 12, 2018.
At that time, Captain Jim Furyk will have his first eight players — automatic qualifiers.
The four remaining slots on the U.S. Team will be Captain’s Selections. Three selections will be announced by Captain Jim Furyk following the Dell Technologies Championship scheduled to be completed on Sept. 3, 2018, and the final selection will be announced after the BMW Championship, which is slated to be completed on Sept. 9, 2018.
