The Bell’s appointment comes after her international Australian Diamonds debut during the final Test against England last Wednesday.

Flyers coach Jane Searle says the co-captains bring different qualities to the team.

“Erin is renowned for her poise and calmness in the attack end, while Clare’s strength and tenacity in defence has been a feature of her game throughout her career,” she said.

“We believe that both will complement each other in the leadership roles and provide wonderful guidance to the rest of the group.”

The Flyers have not taken out a Fast5 title since the tournament’s inaugural season in 2009, finishing second to New Zealand’s Ferns last year.

The Flyers will face Jamaica, South Africa and New Zealand on the first day of the tournament before facing Malawi and England on the second.

Australian Fast5 squad: Karyn Bailey, Erin Bell, Kate Beveridge, Ashleigh Brazill, Clare McMeniman, Kate Moloney, Kate Shimmin, Gabi Simpson, Jo Weston and Amorette Wild.
