HOUSTON – Despite nursing a torn ligament in his left thumb, Astros All-Star Shortstop Carlos Correais still able to give back to the Houston community.

“Doing the heavy work today you know getting the pillows and the linens,” Correa said, who is not able to lift a mattress with the injury. “At the end of the day, it’s being here sharing times with these families and giving them a better night’s sleep.”

The past two times Carlos Correa has partnered with Houston Children’s Charity and Mattress Firm they’ve given away 950 mattresses and Saturday they gave away 200.

“A Better Night’s Sleep” is a program HCC has put on for the last 10 years.

“Before Carlos was involved (we gave away) about a 1,000 beds a year,” said Rob Ball, an HCC board member. “Now (we give away) over 2,000 beds a year so Carlos has been huge for our effort and we really appreciate his involvement.”

With school starting up again at the end of the summer, Taylor Eaton says this event couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I just moved in a new apartment and her school signed her up for it, it’s for my little girl,” Eaton said.
