ACA announces Matador Cup All-Star Team Of The Year
The Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) today announced the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup All-Star Team of the Year for 2015-16.
Headlining the selections in the peer-voted team are recent Test squad additions Shaun Marsh and James Pattinson, along with Australian captain Steve Smith and paceman Mitchell Starc.
The latter duo performed brilliantly in the Matador Cup following the postponement of the Australian Tour to Bangladesh. Smith, who was also voted as captain of the combined side, scored 351 runs at an average of 117, while Starc smashed the Australian domestic one-day record for the most wickets in a single season. He took 23 wickets in the voting period (at 7.48) to eclipse the record set by Victoria’s Shane Harwood in 2008-09, when he took 24 wickets in 10 matches. Starc took a further three wickets in the final, which was won by New South Wales over South Australia.
For Shaun Marsh, his highest score of 186 was en route to the highest aggregate for the competition with 390 runs. He will be hoping to continue his recent run of good form in Adelaide’s Test. Similarly, Victorian quick James Pattinson will be hoping to transfer his form at 50-over level to the Test arena. The right-armer took 13 wickets with a remodelled action, and bowled with decent pace and good rhythm.
The ACA developed the All*Star Awards in 2006-07 to recognise the achievements of the best performed players in the Domestic competitions.
The All*Star teams for all competitions are voted on by all contracted Cricket Australia, State, BBL, WBBL and Rookie players. The teams are voted on in batting order and are made up of the best performed male and female players in each form of the game, as judged by their peers. Players cannot vote for members of their own team.
